A MAN has appeared in court charged with causing death by careless driving after a young boy died when he was struck by a vehicle in an east Cleveland village.

Steven Nigel Jackman is accused of causing the death of Nathan Smith, from Lingdale, following the incident on Boosbeck High Street last year.

The seven year-old was struck by a Peugeot 206 van in front of his eight-year-old brother and mum Kelly as they stepped off a bus on November 15 last year.

Mr Jackman, 23, of Coronation Street, Carlin How, Saltburn, is also charged with causing death by driving a vehicle without the correct insurance.

He only spoke to confirm his name and address when he appeared before Teesside Magistrates' Court this morning (Friday, September 12).

District Judge Andrew Meachin sent the case to Teesside Crown Court, where Mr Jackman is due to appear on September 26.
