A COLOURING book for adults designed by a North-East illustrator is enabling fashionistas to relive their childhoods while drawing up their dream wardrobes.

The Fashion Exercise Book by Frances Moffatt is full of ideas from creating coveted clothes to adding bling to celebrity pets and labelling perfume bottles.

She has also included pages for beauty lovers to put down on paper their take on the latest make-up trends and nail art.

“Everyone can draw no matter what their ability and this book provides a jumping point so it’s is not as intimidating as a blank page,” said the 32-year-old from Guisborough who also teaches at Sunderland University and Cleveland College of Art & Design. “I feel passionate about being inspiring people and helping them unleash their creativity.

The 192-page paperback published by Batsford, which has an initial print run of 4,000 copies, was recently launched at Waterstones in Middlesbrough. Available nationwide for between £7.99 and £9.99, a deal has also been secured with a publisher in the USA.

“These kinds of books are becoming really popular, it’s about putting away your phone or iPad and going back to old fashioned crafts and drawing."

Miss Moffatt who graduated from the MA Future Design programme at Teesside University, said she hoped to get the book into retailers such as Top Shop and Urban Outfitters and wanted to let people share their designs from the book through social media as well as producing a sequel.

“I have been a customer at Waterstones for years so to see my book on the shelves is amazing. I designed the book in my bedroom in Guisborough so hopefully I can show others that you can live locally and succeed," she added.
