A STUDENT will live on just £1 a day as part of a fundraising challenge to raise awareness of extreme poverty.

Middlesbrough student Rachael Crockley, 22, will live on a food budget of just £1 a day for five days for Live Below The Line, a global fundraising challenge by the Global Poverty Project.

Miss Crockley, who is raising money for Oxfam, said: “I wanted to get involved with the challenge to raise awareness of extreme poverty, an issue which needs to be addressed both in the UK and worldwide.”

Now in its fourth year, Live Below the Line challenges people to spend just £1 a day, on food and drink – the extreme poverty threshold beneath which 1.2 billion people worldwide have to survive on each day.

She is planning to spend the £5 budget all at once, adding: “I am going to buy all of my ingredients this weekend and hopefully it will be enough to stretch across the five days."

The charity challenge is due to take place between April 28 and May 2 but Miss Crockley is taking part in the challenge early to encourage other people to get involved. To sponsor her visit: https://www.livebelowtheline.com/me/rachaelcrockley91
