TWO Hartlepool teenagers have been elected to represent the town’s young people at a regional and national level.

Shay Miah, who is 18 and lives in the town’s Victoria Ward, beat off stiff competition from four other candidates to be voted in as Hartlepool’s Member of the UK Youth Parliament (MYP) for the next two years. He takes over from previous MYP Hannah Bew.

While 16-year-old Farah Razzaq, who is also from the Victoria Ward, came second in the poll and will serve as his Deputy. Both are very active in Hartlepool Council’s participation groups for young people.

FARMERS’ MARKET: Saltburn Famers’ Market, which takes place tomorrow, is held every second Saturday through the year at Station Square from 9am to 2.30pm. The market has expanded from last year with the market taking over an area behind the main section to allow visitors to enjoy a dedicated hot food area within the market.

MUSIC FESTIVAL: Tickets have gone on sale for the Guisborough Rhythm and Blues Club Festival, which takes place on May 3 and 4 at Guisborough Town Football Club Howlbeck Road. Tickets for the Saturday night cost £15. Doors open 7.30.pm. Tickets for Sunday cost £38. Anyone buying tickets for both days can get them for the £50.
