TO nationalise any company is to call the death knell on it.

We have a government who don’t know its a*** from its elbow and yet we have this well-meaning, but I fear very naïve, mayor, if he thinks that this is the way of saving this little jewel of an airport – Durham Tees Valley (Echo, May 4).

It’s quite apparent that local councils’ minds were made long ago regarding its fate by allowing so many houses to be built in close proximity to the airfield – they would rather it were a housing estate and so would the present owners/investors I’m sure.

Would it not make sense for the powers that be at Newcastle Airport to take control of it and delegate some of its short haul flights and maybe commercial cargo to use this amazing facility instead of increasing traffic through Newcastle?

It’s all to do with logistics and common sense and even if it meant a loss in revenue for Newcastle it would make Teesside feasible and give it some identity back.

Stop talking – we need action by those in the aviation business not some dithering Government bods who know nowt.
