CHILDREN are invited to kick off the summer holidays in a mischievous way by learning how to be pirates.

Captain Cook Birthplace Museum’s annual Pirate Training Day takes place on Thursday, July 27.

Those taking part will get the opportunity to take part in pirate related crafts such as mask and sword making and doing a special treasure trial around the museum.

There’s also the chance to learn to write ‘pirate-style’ with a quill and ink and all trainees will earn their Pirate School Certificate once all the tasks have been completed.

Pirate doctor Sarah will be on hand to show the best way to remove a bullet and perhaps even perform the odd amputation.

The event takes place at the museum, based in Stewart Park in Middlesbrough, between 11am and 3pm.

A museum explorer pass is required for access to the museum and activities on the day.

The pass costs £10 and is available from the museum reception.
