PUPILS have gained an insight into the world of work when professionals visited their school to discuss their respective careers.

The Spotlight On Success event, at Acklam Grange School, in Middlesbrough, featured representatives from professions including midwifery, law, interior design, sports coaching, journalism, rail freight, the Armed Forces, the Middlesbrough FC Foundation, catering and hospitality, web design, film production and an entrepreneur.

More than 300 year ten pupils took part in the initiative, for which they had to book their own tickets for two talks of their choice through the Eventbrite website.

The event was organised by Amy Langstaff, Jonny Lowes and Dale Clement, from the school’s Careers, Employment, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) team.

Mrs Langstaff said: “It has enabled the students to look into the world of work from the perspective of people from their own professional backgrounds.

“This gives them the chance to think about their own future options are.

“It is all about raising aspirations of students as much as we can with what is out there in Middlesbrough.”

Mr Lowes added: “It was important that everyone who came had links to Middlesbrough and for the students to see that there are opportunities out there and they can go for them.”
