A 29-YEAR-old man has been arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent and drink driving after crashing into a tree.
Cleveland Police were called to Flatts Lane, in Normanby, Middlesbrough, at around 5.50am on Tuesday morning after a Volkswagen rolled over on impact with the tree.
A member of the public stopped to help those inside the stricken vehicle in a blue Ford Focus, however one occupant of the wrecked VW then "made off" in the Ford.
The Ford Focus was later found dumped in Nunthorpe with a suspect traced to a nearby address and taken to hospital for treatment.
He was later arrested in connection with the incident.
A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: “A male was taken to James Cook Hospital and was later arrested on suspicion of taking a motor vehicle without consent and drink driving.
"He is currently in custody.”
