A NORTH-EAST university has continued its international expansion by opening a new office on the other side of the world.

Teesside University has created a new base in the Indian city of Gurgaon, to add to its already established offices in China and Malaysia.

Bosses say the new site is being opened to build on the university’s already established international reputation, to create new business partnerships and to take advantage student recruitment opportunities in the country.

An official launch took place last week and was attended by representatives from The British Council, UK Trade & Investment, local education partners and international student recruitment agencies.

Staff at the Indian base, headed up by new director Padmini Parameswaran, have already spent the last few months identifying recruitment possibilities in the area, ahead of them potentially beginning university life on Teesside later this year.

Dr David Bell, pro vice-chancellor international at Teesside University, said the “strong international community” on its campus had helped the university see students graduating from more than 100 different countries

“We are always striving to provide an outstanding student and learning experience for both our home and international students.

“Teesside University is an institution with an outstanding international reputation which provides a rich variety of programmes, underpinned by research, enterprise and the professions.

“We are continually working to engage with potential students and high-quality partners around the world to create opportunities for global study opportunities.

“Our new office in India is part of that commitment and I am looking forward to working with colleagues and partners and showcasing our university as a world-class destination.”

Teesside University recently announced it was expanding its Middlesbrough base by buying The Gazette newspaper’s Borough Road offices.

The move will see the newspaper take up residence in Hudson Quay which is located on Middlehaven, near Middlesbrough Football Club’s Riverside stadium.
