EMERGENCY repairs on a main gas line has resulted in a temporary lane closure on a busy North East road.

Engineers from Northern Gas Networks (NGN) are working on a gas main on the A172 Marton Road in Middlesbrough.

The lane closure, which is on the outbound carriageway of the main arterial route at the junction of the B1380 Ladgate Lane, is expected to be in place until Friday.

Motorists, heading south out of Middlesbrough or people attending appointments at James Cook University Hospital by heading through Marton, will experience delayed journey times so are advised to allow extra time for their journey.

The gas supply to local homes and businesses has not been affected by the problem on the pipeline.

Steve Pigott, customer operations area manager for NGN said: “The safety of members of the public is our number one priority, and in order to carry out the repairs it is necessary to temporarily close this lane to traffic.

“We’d like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused and thank everyone for their patience as we look to complete the repair as quickly and safely as possible.”
