A TIME capsule will give future generations a glimpse of health care in 2016.

Medical equipment, bandages, photographs and booklets were among items buried during the construction of a new hospital in Middlesbrough.

The multi-million pound private medical centre, owned by Ramsay Health Care is currently being built within the grounds of Acklam Hall and, once complete, will host staff and services from the existing Tees Valley Treatment Centre.

Today (Thursday), staff filled a silver capsule with the tools of their trade and buried it on the site of their future workplace, where it should remain for at least 100 years.

The idea came from healthcare assistant Bev Goodwin, who hopes those who find it will enjoy learning about healthcare circa 2016.

Ms Goodwin said: “Hopefully it will be nice for them to see how we did things and what kind of equipment we use.”

General manager Donna Thornton added: “We thought this was a great idea to mark the occasion of the building being constructed and moving into a new era.

“Now that the building work is well underway and starting to take shape we thought this was the perfect opportunity to bury the capsule.

“The capsule contains items that are representative of the hospital and the healthcare industry in 2016, so that future generations can gain an insight into life at our hospital.”
