A MAN has been arrested after a stand-off with police on Newport Bridge, in Middlesbrough, last night.
Police responded to reports of concerns for the welfare of a man on the bridge at 1.15am who had climbed to the top of one of the bridge's 180ft towers.
The bridge was closed for several hours while officers dealt with the incident with the assistance of the fire brigade and a police helicopter.
The man was arrested at 5.15am on suspicion of breach of bail and the bridge was reopened at 6am.
He is currently in custody with Cleveland Police.
