A FAMILY affected by cancer are joining a national campaign to ‘stand up’ to the disease.

Janet Regis, 55, of Nunthorpe, Middlesbrough, has just completed treatment for a rare cancer that moved the position of her brain.

Mrs Regis, her sister Anne-Marie O’Connor, 50, and daughter Jessica Webster, 27, have now joined forces to support Stand Up To Cancer - a joint fundraising campaign from Cancer Research UK and Channel 4.

They are urging people across the region to show their support for the initiative.

By joining Stand Up To Cancer, supporters will be uniting with doctors, nurses, scientists and celebrities to generate funds, raise awareness and help accelerate progress in life-saving cancer research.

Mrs Regis and her family hope that people across the region will join them in organising something to help raise money at work, school or at home - from fancy dress days and sponsored silences to bake sales and open mic nights.

Mrs Regis said: “I’m determined to Stand Up To Cancer, a disease that has caused me to suffer memory loss, give up my business, surrender my driving licence and move house to be closer to the hospital for treatment.

“It has really taken over everything but I won’t let it win.”
