SOME of the most talented young golfers in the region are set to take each other on when they tee off in a leading amateur tournament next week.

Middlesbrough Golf Club is playing host to the 42nd North of England Open Amateur Youth Championship, which starts on Tuesday, August 2.

The event, which sees the players competing over three days, features the best young amateur UK golfers, with past competitors including Danny Willett, the current US Masters Champion, Sandy Lyle and many of today’s leading professionals.

Middlesbrough Golf Club, off Brass Castle Lane in Marton, has become well established as host for the event and has also been used for a series of Yorkshire and Teesside Union golf matches.

Club Chairman, Bryan Sloper, said: “The Club is proud to be bringing top quality golf to the area and we are happy to welcome spectators to the event free of charge.”

The first round of play gets underway at 7.30am with more than 90 entrants taking part.
