A LAST minute cancellation from British-Asian Superstar Raxstar has led to a frantic rush by Middlesbrough’s Mela organisers to find a replacement.

The rap sensation pulled out of this weekend’s festival following the unexpected death of his father last weekend.

He has been replaced by famous singer, actress and dancer and Asian chart-topper Rameet Kaur.

In an official statement Raxstar said: “I was really looking forward to returning to the North-East and performing at Middlesbrough Mela. I know it’s one of the biggest and best UK Melas so I’m just hoping they invite me back next year.”

Mela Programmer Kash Patel said: “It’s a such shame for the people of Tees Valley to miss out on seeing Raxstar perform live this year as I know a lot of hard work had gone into his set.”

Mr Patel added that Ms Kaur was also a major star who is now set to appear in a forthcoming blockbuster movie as the lead actress. He said: “I have known Rameet ever since she was a teenager performing in her family dance group so it’s great to see her go on to do so well in such a competitive industry.”

The Mela takes place in Centre Square, Middlesbrough, on Saturday and Sunday.
