A THORNABY punter has won £2000 after betting on Leicester to win the Premier League at 1000-1.

Tom Brown, 24, has even backed Middlesbrough to win the top flight next season for exactly the same odds.

Tom, who bets less than £10 every month, explained why he decided to put £2 on the Foxes back in October.

The Northern Echo:

He said: “I was looking for something ridiculous. If there was subliminal reasoning behind it, it was because I like the colour blue.

“Seeing them back in the Premier League was a good thing and it has obviously paid off.

“Two pound bets - that is the way forward!”

The Middlesbrough fan did not cash-out his bet but could have done at many points during the season as Claudio Ranieri’s side led the league for over 100 days.

He described the moment he found out Leicester were confirmed as Premier League champions when Tottenham drew with Chelsea.

He said: “I had flash scores on my phone and as soon as it said match over I jumped up! I had texts off everybody saying ‘Leicester have actually done it’”.

“I am more happy for the Leicester fans that have won on 5000-1, that will set some of them up for a good few years.”

The 24 year-old has not decided what to do with his winnings yet, but has had one interesting suggestion from his housemate.

He said: “The first thing my housemate said was let's go and buy a gazebo!”

“I don’t really know what to do with it because it is an unexpected amount. I will probably save most of it and spend the rest on either sprucing up the house or even put some away from a holiday.

“I can’t complain,” he joked.

Tom used to go to every single Middlesbrough game and now is looking to become more involved in football following his remarkable bet and Boro’s promotion.

He said: “I used to play football every week, you distance it when you’re not playing football as much.

“When Boro went down I distanced it from there, I was a bit of a glory supporter looking back at it. It is a good time to get back into it.”
