PEOPLE on Teesside are amongst the luckiest in the country when it comes to scooping cash on the National Lottery.

Winners in the TS postcode came in second, behind the Romford area of Essex, according to figures released by Camelot.

The areas are ranked by the number of major prizes of £50,000 or more, won per head of population since The National Lottery began.

Players in Newcastle, Warrington, Liverpool, Ilford, Medway, Newport, Wigan and Harrow were also named in the UK’s top ten luckiest postcodes.

Andy Carter, Senior Winners’ Advisor for The National Lottery, the man who pays out the big winners, said: “There are now a massive 4,250 National Lottery millionaires in all with more than six new millionaires made every week.”

Among the winners in the Teesside area are former welder Denis Graham and his wife Mary, a retired health care assistant, won the Lotto quadruple rollover draw in September 2014 - landing them a total of £4,570,887.

The couple, from Billingham, on Teesside, have played The National Lottery for almost 20 years, using the same numbers throughout.
