THE public got to see how gas is pumped around the region during an open day at a gas depot.
The region's distributor Northern Gas Networks opened the doors to its depot in Middlesbrough to the local community.
People were given a tour and learned about how NGN replaces gas pipes, as well as the work the company is doing with local schools.
Visitors also got to see the company's life saving gas detection technology that can discover harmful levels of carbon monoxide, and a new way of finding gas leaks to make a repair in just a few hours.
The company also offered tours around its depots in Sunderland and Newcastle, with about 50 people taking part across all three.
Nigel Chambers, Customer Operations Area Manager for the North Tyne area said: βIt was a great opportunity to share more information about the work we do and also get some direct feedback from our customers and stakeholders to help us continuously improve the service we provide.β
