A HEAD chef has been appointed in a restaurant in a newly-refurbished hotel.

Acklam Hall, in Middlesbrough, has announced that Adam Anderson will head up the team in the kitchens at the Brierley restaurant.

He has worked in Wynyard Hall, Jesmond Dene House and Newcastle Football Club.

The Grade I listed, 17th century building will open its doors on Thursday after an 18-month renovation.

The multi-million pound redevelopment has seen the complete restoration of the building, which dates back to the 1680s and was home to Teesside’s Hustler family for almost 250 years, before becoming a school in the 1930s.

The venue includes both the Brierley restaurant and function suites for weddings and other occasions.
