BORO goalkeeper Dimi Konstantopoulos apologised to fans last night (Tuesday, Feb 10) after swearing at a fan who criticised his performance on Twitter.
The fan, who used the name @mfcsmog on Twitter, was said to be a troll by other users.
The account has since been deleted.
The fan is said to have called Dimi "s****" after last night's away draw at MK Dons - which drew Dimi's response.
He has deleted the tweet - but posters on internet fan forum FMTTM said he had told the troll: "Go f*** yourself."
Later he tweeted:"I apologise to all fans for replying like that to this guy... I shouldn't have but he has been trying to wind me up for a while now."
He then said to mfcsmog: "You are not a fan pal... you are trying to wind me up the past few weeks... the fans know if I appreciate them or not... ask around."
Comedy actor and Boro fan Neil Grainger, who stars in TV show Hebburn, backed Dimi up, saying: "Tonight was frustrating but trolling@Dimster23 (Dimi) or any of our players is mindless and idiotic and we are better than that.
He added: "Dimi, ignore this sad little trolling child. He's been doing this from different accounts for a while."
