FIREFIGHTERS are offering drivers a car wash and free winter checks today in Thornaby.

The two-minute drive-thru at Thornaby Fire Station checks tyres, lights, wipers and fluid levels. Motorists will be offered a free screenwash top up and ice-scrapers with road safety reminders.

Andrew Bright, Learn and Live Co-ordinator with Cleveland Fire Brigade, said: “We don’t want drivers to be caught out when the ice and snow arrives. Our message is: be prepared and be safe. A winter check is better than being in a winter wreck.”

“Our checks and advice are free and motorists visiting the drive-thru check-ups can also get their car washed by firefighters in return for a donation to The Fire Fighters Charity.”

The event takes place between 10am and 5pm today (Thursday, November 26) at Thornaby Fire Station, Master Road.  The Brigade will be supported at the event by Teesdale Tyre & Auto Centre.
