A CATHEDRAL organist has recorded her first solo CD.
Francesca Massey, sub-organist at Durham Cathedral, has recorded Bravura!, a collection of personally chosen pieces she performs on the Cathedral organ.
She said: “I’ve personally chosen all of the pieces on the CD and wanted to select music that hasn’t been recorded on the Durham Cathedral organ before. A number of tracks have rarely been recorded on any organ to my knowledge.
“Track 11 was a quite personal choice and is the Empyrean by Francis Pott who was a good friend of my former organ teacher, Jeremy Filsell, to whom the work is dedicated.”
The 32-year-old, originally from Halesowen, in the West Midlands, has been in Durham since 2011.
Bravura is available from Priory Records, priced £11.99, and in the Durham Cathedral shop.
A launch event will be held at the Cathedral on Sunday (October 11) at 4.45pm. Ms Massey will play the organ and talk about the music, followed by wine and nibbles in the Chapter House. Entry is free and all are welcome.
