REVELLERS are being warned to drink responsibly and behave over the bank holiday.

Cleveland Police are reminding people not to drink too much as they all too regularly see the consequences of drinking excessive alcohol.

Traditionally, Bank Holidays are a busier time for the police and other emergency services, with alcohol fuelling an increase in the number of incidents and therefore a rise in demand across all emergency services.

Chief Inspector Mark Hall said: “Over Bank Holiday weekends we traditionally see an increase in the number of incidents that we have to deal with, which are usually fuelled by alcohol.

“People tend to go out for longer periods of time, during the day to barbecues or local pubs, which means that they drink more and whilst the majority of people do behave themselves, there are a minority that are intent on causing trouble.

“We would ask those who intend to drink this weekend to enjoy themselves, however, please drink responsibly and behave appropriately. Police will not tolerate alcohol-fuelled antisocial behaviour and you could end up waking up the next morning in a police cell.”
