ONE of the UK’s top Michelin starred chefs has joined forces with Middlesbrough College to help them deliver world class training to catering and hospitality students.

Frances Atkins, one of just six female Michelin starred chefs in the UK, is the co-owner of The Yorke Arms near Harrogate and has held the impressive accolade continuously since 2003.

The top chef will work with staff and students to create new menu choices for Waterside Brasserie, the college’s training restaurant, including a Frances Atkins starter, main course and dessert.

The partnership means Middlesbrough College is a step closer to launching a School of Culinary Excellence to raise the profile of the industry across the North-East.

In return, Middlesbrough College will support The Yorke Arms with apprenticeship and training programmes, and teaching staff will add to their own experience by spending time working at the restaurant.

Zoe Lewis, Middlesbrough College principal and chief executive, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Frances as we know students and staff will benefit immensely from the relationship.

“We wanted to team up with an inspirational chef who could bring a new dimension to our catering and hospitality department, and Frances was the perfect choice.

“We’re keen to help more young people discover, explore and pursue a career in catering as chefs and restaurant managers and we are always looking for opportunities to provide students with new learning experiences.”
