AN APPEAL has been issued for suggestions about what should go in a new time capsule in Middlesbrough.

The capsule has been designed by Middlesbrough College students and will eventually be buried at Middlehaven, a new urban park which it is hoped will help regenerate the town.

Middlehaven has already been used as the site of a number of new buildings, including Middlesbrough College and the myplace youth centre. Further residential and commercial properties are planned.

In the coming weeks a suggestion box and pop-up banner will be on hand at a number of venues including the Hillstreet Centre, the Transporter Bridge, Teesside Archives, Stewart Park, Albert Park, the Dorman Museum and Middlesbrough College.

The deadline for suggestions is the end of August, with the capsule due to be buried when the park is officially opened in the autumn.

Councillor Charlie Rooney, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, said: “Middlehaven is really gaining momentum, and is helping to shape the town’s future.

“The urban park will be one of its key focal points, and the time capsule is a chance to tell future generations about Middlesbrough’s history and its hopes for the future.

“I’m hoping people will come forward with imaginative and thought-provoking ideas that really symbolise both Middlesbrough’s rich heritage and its aspirations for the future.”
