MIDDLESBROUGHÂ COUNCIL has sought to clarify its position over the tarmacking of two streets in the town.
The Northern Echo reported today (Friday, June 19) that two cars have been tarmacked around on Sadberge Street and Hovingham Street in North Ormesby.
Former councillor Len Junier said the council would have to relay the road and said there was a possibility rain could get into the asphalt.
However a Middlesbrough Council spokesman said: "Asphalt, it should go without saying, is waterproof.
"Indeed it would be entirely inadvisable to re-lay roads in Middlesbrough with a substance which could crack due to rainfall.
"The road will not be relaid, the area requiring patching will be patched and rain will not affect either that work or the road in the future."
