MIDDLESBROUGH FC's youngest card-carrying football fan has been registered to the club - aged just one day old.

Jude Joseph Hills was born on Wednesday, May 6 in Thailand and, if past history is any guide, has a life-time of football agony ahead of him.

The Boro baby's father, Rob Hills, 33, originally of Thornaby but now working as a maths teacher in Bangkok, sent the very first picture of the newborn to his life long friend John McQue, who was best man at his wedding.

Mr McQue, of Middlesbrough but now living in Darlington, said: "I got the picture and, naturally, my first thought as a right-thinking Middlesbrough fan was to Middlesbrough Supporters Club so he could be a full member on his first day. I've also been down the club shop and bought all the Boro bibs and all that and sent it over to John. I'm looking forward to seeing photos of him in all the regalia."

Mr McQue, who has two children, aged eight and six, who are both season ticket holders, explained that his friend manages to either watch or listen to every Boro match. The two friends met at Macmillan Academy aged 11 and became life-long friends.

A spokesman for Middlesbrough Supporters Club said it was "a lovely story," but joked; "we have to deny him full voting rights, just yet."
