A TEENAGE girl who won a giant Easter egg promptly decided to give it away to children less fortunate than herself.

The five-kilo Betty's Imperial Egg was used to raise money for Zoe's Place, a baby and toddler hospice in Normanby, Middlesbrough, in the run up to Easter.

Amy Wilson, from the Stockton area, won the egg, worth £200, by coming closest to guessing the number of miniature eggs held in a jar by the egg at Hillview Shopping Centre in Middlesbrough town centre.

But her mother, Gail Wilson, wrote on the shopping centre's Facebook site that her daughter had decided to give the egg to Butterwick Children's Hospice in Stockton, so that children at both hospice's can benefit.

"We are so proud of Amy for this lovely gesture," said Mrs Wilson. Her grandmother, Karen Lee, added: "Nana is so proud of you. I knew that you would do something good to give to other children such a lovely surprise."

Hillview had held a vote of shoppers to see which charity would benefit from donated chocolate egg and Zoe's Place won. People could then donate money and try to guess the number of miniature eggs during the run up to the Easter weekend.

A spokesman for Hillview Shopping Centre said: "Congratulations to Amy Wilson winner of our giant Easter egg competition who correctly guessed that there were 524 mini eggs in the jar. A delighted Amy collected the egg this afternoon with her family. Thanks to everyone who entered."
