AN adult and four children escaped injury after a fire at a house in Middlesbrough.

The blaze at the property in Deal Court, Grove Hill, Middlesbrough, was reported around 8.35pm last night (Thursday).

Two fire engines from Middlesbrough and one from the Marine Fire Station attended.

"There were five people in the property at the time,” said a spokeswoman for Cleveland Fire Brigade.

"One adult and four children. The fire spread from an outhouse into the house, severely damaging it."

The kitchen and hallway were damaged and there was smoke damage elsewhere.

"The occupier was alerted by fire brigade smoke alarm and led the children to safety,” added the spokeswoman.
