AN ambitious planning application for an off-shore windfarm with 400 turbines will be examined at a special council meeting.

The Dogger Bank project, which has a proposed area more than 100 miles away from the coast, would be connected to the mainland between Redcar and Marske by cable.

Four offshore accommodation platforms will also be built as well as two converter stations within the Wilton Complex, near Middlesbrough, and eight offshore high voltage converter platforms.

The plans were available to be looked at from November 2013. Energy company Forewind, the proposer, will have to lay out the application, which includes two separate windfarms totalling 1,153km squared, in January.

The compulsory acquisition hearing will be held on Tuesday, January 13 at 9.30am in The Council Chamber at Redcar and Cleveland House.
