POLICE and fire crews attended two collisions on the A19 in Teesside within hours of each other which resulted in several casualties being taken to hospital.
A 70-year-old man suffered injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening and three other people were taken to hospital following the multiple vehicle incident at Acklam, Middlesbrough, at about 5.10pm yesterday (Wednesday). Cleveland Police and crews from Coulby Newham, Thornaby and Middlesbrough fire stations attended the scene.
Officers closed the carriageway and put diversions in place while the road was made safe.
Police also attended a collision involving three vehicles near the Sheraton turn off near Hartlepool at about 8.50pm. Fire crews from Stockton, Billingham and Stranton stations were called to the collision which resulted in two people being taken by ambulance to hospital for treatment.
Any witnesses are asked to call Cleveland Police on the non-emergency 101 number.
