PAUL Daniels needed more than a little magic to find his way home after getting lost after a performance.

The Teesside magician needed the help of the police after losing his bearings while in Maidstone, Kent.

Daniels, from South Bank, Middlesbrough, and his wife Debbie McGee, were driving back to their hotel after performing at the town's theatre when they realised their satellite navigation system had sent them the wrong way.

Luckily a police traffic patrol car was on hand to help them home.

Daniels, 76, wrote on Twitter: "Satnav sent us up a lane to the wrong side of river. Got a police escort to the hotel. Nice guys. Thank you."

A tweet from the Kent Road Policing Group used Mr Daniels 'You'll like this...not a lot!' phrase before adding: "Just met Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee. Assisted them to find their hotel. Magic."

Mr Daniels retweeted a comment from a fan, Denise Eaton, who wrote: " Sure I'd be told to disappear if I asked for police escort. @ThePaulDaniels must have magic touch!"
