A MAN was taken to hospital with burns to his hand following a flat fire in Middlesbrough.

The resident had to rescued by firefighters using a ladder during the incident in Hartington Road.

The fire service was called to the flat shortly before 6pm on Sunday (October 12). Three fire appliances were in attendance.

Cleveland Fire and Rescue Service said a kitchen had been 30 per cent fire damaged and 70 per cent smoke damaged.

A frying pan and electric grill were also destroyed in the blaze.

The injured man was taken to Middlesbrough's James Cook University Hospital for treatment.
