A HEARTBROKEN mother whose daughter was a victim of child sexual exploitation has spoken about the abuse the family is still suffering, even though her attacker is now behind bars.

Shakil Munir was one of three men convicted at Teesside Crown Court of grooming girls as young as 13 and exploiting them for sex.

The 32-year-old married father is serving eight years in prison, but one of his victims the ordeal is not over.

Now 15, she has been forced to move schools three times due to the torrent of vile abuse she has endured and has not been in full-time education for a year since being called “white trash” and “slut” by classmates.

Last night her mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said: "He got inside my daughter’s head. He told her he loved her but he abused her, she’s still trying to get her head around that."

She is now determined to take legal action against Middlesbrough Local Education Authority for not protecting her child from the taunts or giving her an adequate level of education.

Taylor Goodchild solicitors confirmed that it was in the early stages of preparing a case.

This week a Middlesbrough Council report - titled Protecting children from sexual exploitation : It’s everyone’s responsibility - revealed that between 50 to 60 youngsters were at risk of grooming in the town and detailed the steps being taken to tackle the issue.

A spokesman for Middlesbrough Council said: “The care of any victim of abuse is absolutely paramount and we continue to work with the family in this case to offer every support.

“We have in place a Child in Need Plan which includes the assistance of a social worker and interventions from agencies appropriate to the needs of the young person and her family.

“We are also continuing to work with the family to find the most suitable schooling arrangements in order to provide the best education and are currently offering one to one teaching.”
