A GROUP of Teesside's female poets are set to perform alongside a mima art exhibition during its final weekend.

Tees Women Poets have been mentored to create the performance in response to the gallery's current exhibition, ARTIST ROOMS Louise Bourgeois: A Woman Without Secrets.

The exhibition will be displaying works by the late Bourgeois, an American artist who was the first to be commissioned by the Tate Modern for the inauguration of its Turbine Hall.

Ideas of womanhood, including the roles of daughter, wife, mother and lover are key themes through the exhibition with the group set to perform collaboratively with the Precious Cargo theatre company on Saturday (October 11).

The group was established by performance poetry and spoken word organisation Apples and Snakes to develop the skills of female poets living or working in the wider Teesside area.

It is set to offer audiences a new way of looking at the artwork and will also feature a headline set from North-East-born spoken work performer Sophia Blackwell, as well as a performance from award-winning poet Sheree Mack.

Admission to the exhibition, available until Sunday (October 12), will remain free but tickets for the two showings of the performance, at 2pm and 3pm, will cost £4.
