PROMISING rugby players have been kitted out thanks to a sponsorship deal with a local building society.

Guisborough Rugby Club's mini and junior squads have teamed up with Darlington Building Society to replace grubby old strips with new shirts for the under 9s players.

With the Rugby World Cup in 2015 being hosted in England, Guisborough is hoping that with their new kit they can entice youngsters attracted to rugby union through the competition and give them the skills to be called up for an England world cup team in the years to come.

Neil Thomas, Guisborough RUFC mini and juniors secretary, said: “Getting sponsorship from the building society has given our Under 9s a well-deserved boost ahead of the new season. With their new kits they have been put on the right track to success in the future.”

Louise Thorpe, manager of the Guisborough branch, said: “We know how important the rugby club is to the town so to be able to say that we have supported the youngest players in its ranks is wonderful, especially if they end up playing professionally.”
