A FINE art student who paints industrial landscapes has donated some of her work to a youth centre in Middlesbrough.

Kiera Birkenshaw, from Scarborough, has donated the two huge canvases, which depict industrial Teesside, to Myplace in Middlesbrough, a £4m youth facility.

At least one of the works will be put on permanent display in the centre.

The 19-year-old said: "I am an urban landscape painter who wishes to explore ideas of how the man-made is taking over the natural landscapes in Middlesbrough and the effects that it has on the people living here.

"In both the large canvases the Transporter Bridge, recognisable as one of the main landmarks of Middlesbrough, is a symbol of the town's pride in its heritage and dependence on heavy, dirty industry."
