THREE properties were raided this morning as police targeted suspected drug dealers operating on a Middlesbrough estate.

More than 30 officers took part in the operation that resulted in several arrests and the recovery of a quantity of suspected heroin and cannabis.

Addresses in Sutton Way, Alnwick Court and Shelley Road on Grove Hill were searched at around 8.30am this morning as Cleveland Police responded to information from the community.

Sniffer dogs and members of the force’s specialist drugs unit took part in the operation while officers were out on the neighbouring streets reassuring residents and handing out leaflets.

Sergeant Brian Challas, who co-ordinated the operation, praised residents for coming forward with information which enabled the force to target the suspects.

He said: “We know that drugs are being dealt on foot, on bikes and in vehicles across the estates and I’m grateful for the help of colleagues from across the force and from our partner agencies who have made today’s operation a success. Such behaviour will not be tolerated and we will continue to act on any information provided by the public.”

Cleveland’s Police and Crime Commissioner Barry Coppinger joined the officers for the raids which were co-ordinated from Coulby Newham Police station.
