VOLUNTEERS are being sought to ensure the smooth-running of a triathlon.

Hartlepool’s Big Lime Triathlon is taking place on October 1.

Hartlepool Borough Council say a number of people have already offered their services for the event, now in its fifth year, but they are looking for more people to come forward.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome, but under-16s must be accompanied by an adult. The marshals will be placed at strategic points around the course to assist both competitors and spectators.

Around 300 competitors are expected to take part in this year’s event, which is open to people of all abilities and consists of a 750 metre open water swim, a 20 kilometre cycle ride and a 5 kilometre run with Hartlepool marina and neighbouring Seaton Carew providing the backdrop.

Jaz Bradley, volunteer activator with Hartlepool Council’s Feel Good in Hartlepool team, said: “We’d like to thank all of those people who have already offered to help, but we would be grateful to anyone else who is able to give up a few hours of their time. Marshals will be needed from 7.15am to around 10.30am on the day of the event.

“The Big Lime Triathlon has become an established fixture on the triathlon calendar and the marshals are vital to its continued success.
