A FOOTBALL club which warned it was becoming a "laughing stock" due to the state of its pitch has thanked a council for acting on its complaint.
Hartlepool Football Club, who compete in the Wearside League, plays home games at Grayfields Enclosure, which is maintained by Hartlepool Borough Council.
But the council responded to the criticism by cutting the grass before their match on Wednesday night.
A spokesperson for Hartlepool FC wrote on the club's Facebook page: "Credit where it is due - after our complaints about the state of the pitch for last Saturday's game, the council have acted and the pitch looks 100 times better tonight.
A spokesperson for Hartlepool Borough Council said they will continue to "strive to do their best with the resources available" to them.
“We note the concerns expressed, we will look into them and take up matters directly with the club."
