AN elderly couple have been left shaken and upset following an apparent road rage incident just off the A66.

The couple were threatened and intimidated by another couple as they drove along the slip road at the Metz Bridge roundabout at the traffic lights, coming off the A66 eastbound carriageway.

A Cleveland Police spokesman said: "The offending vehicle - a white Suzuki driven by a woman with a child in the back seat - cut across the path of the victim’s Mercedes then pulled alongside, with a male occupant gesticulating at the elderly driver.

"This continued up to the Hartington interchange where the cars stopped at a red light at which point the man got out of the Suzuki and threatened the other driver, telling him to get out of his car. He then pushed the wing mirror against the Mercedes’ door and smashed it off its fixtures.

"When the elderly driver’s wife got out to note down the offending vehicle’s details she was threatened by the man.

"An Arriva bus pulled up alongside and the driver asked if the elderly couple were OK."

The investigating officer is aware that details of this incident have been posted on local social media sites and appeals for the creator of the post to come forward.

Any other witness or people with information are urged to contact PC Dave Stewart via the non-emergency 101 number.
