AN fishing boat adrift has been recovered by volunteer lifeboat crews.

The unmanned 35ft coble was spotted adrift near South Gare on the River Tees and a request was made from Humber Coastguard to crews at Hartlepool on Wednesday evening to recover the boat.

Both the all-weather and inshore lifeboats were launched with volunteer crews on board into sea conditions described as rough.

Both lifeboats were on scene at 6.40pm and discovered the boat partially aground on a beach area close to Paddy’s Hole on the River Tees.

Crews went ashore to secure the coble to prevent it drifting off again before returning to the Ferry Road lifeboat station.
