UKIP’s campaign trail will kick off in the North-East today, 24 hours after the party’s official campaign launch in London ahead of the General Election.
Paul Nuttall, UKIP’s leader, is set to reveal which constituency he will stand for during a speech in Hartlepool after promising to “get the [Brexit] deal the British people want”.
During the EU referendum, 69.9 per cent of people in Hartlepool voted to leave Europe.
During UKIP’s official campaign launch yesterday, Mr Nuttall revealed his party’s manifesto would be fighting for “the kind of Brexit people voted for”, involving regaining control of borders, freedom to strike trade deals and a refusal to pay any “divorce bill” to the EU.
His speech was disrupted by groups of protesters waving anti-racism posters at the UKIP leader, before they were evicted from the launch.
Mr Nuttall will lead the UKIP campaign from 10.30am today on Durham Street, in Middlegate, Hartlepool.
