A NINE-YEAR-OLD boy has died just over a week after he was involved in a road traffic accident.
Ethan Owens who was involved in a serious collision on Marina Way in Hartlepool last Monday, February 27, passed away in Middlesbrough's James Cook University Hospital on Tuesday.
He sustained life-threatening injuries shortly before 5.45pm on February 27 after being in collision with a grey Range Rover on Marina Way.
Off-duty probationer police officers were on the scene and administered emergency First Aid before ambulance staff arrived.
The boy was taken by air-ambulance to James Cook University Hospital, where his condition was initially described as critical.
A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said: "Our thoughts and sympathy are with Ethan’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time."
Officers are still investigating the circumstances of the collision.
Police said at the time of the accident they believe the boy was with several other young children. The incident is understood to have happened near Frankie and Benny's restaurant.
