THE work of an internationally renowned artist will go on show in Hartlepool next month.

Hartlepool Art Galley will be showcasing the work of Guy Denning, whose paintings have previously been displayed in solo exhibitions in London, Paris and New York.

The free exhibition – which opens on January 20 and runs until March – is one of the largest showcases of the artist’s work to date.

The exhibition will include Denning’s ‘graphic’ urban street art as well as his politically charged paintings.

After being shunned by numerous art colleges and branded ‘too literal’ and ‘too ferocious’ by his critics, he refined his techniques and taught himself how to be an artist.

The artist said: “Hartlepool Art Gallery is a fantastic building that provides the ideal environment for people to explore art and I’m really looking forward to seeing my work on show there.”

The gallery in Church Square is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm.
