A POLICE fishing competition has raised £1000 for the RNLI.
The donation was raised through a raffle that took place during the day and featured prizes donated by multiple different sponsors.
After the day’s events, Hartlepool RNLI mechanic Gary Waugh was presented with a cheque for £1000.
The 46th Police Sport UK National Boat Fishing Championship was held five miles out to sea between Hartlepool and Seaham.
The contest featured 140 anglers from over 20 different police forces taking to the sea in an attempt to score the most points.
Teams were awarded points for both the amount of fish they caught, which they then released, and the different species they had hooked throughout the six hours they were at sea.
Kev Woodcock, secretary of Durham Police Sea Angling Club said there was a unanimous decision to donate money raised to the RNLI. “The competition was a great success and was enjoyed by all the anglers who travelled from all over the UK.” he said.
Mike Caddy, Hartlepool RNLI operations manager said: “Our thanks go to Kev and his fellow police anglers.”
