YOUNG people with disabilities or special educational needs are being given the opportunity to take part in a project to help them explore the delights of music.
Singing, drumming, guitars, keyboards and composing with an iPad are just some of the activities on offer at the free weekly sessions, which are being run by Throston Youth Project in Hartlepool for people aged 13-19.
The project has been developed following the success of a pilot last year and has been made possible thanks to funding from Musinc.
The workshops are delivered by community musicians Apollo Arts.
Sarah McCluskey, project leader at Hartlepool Council’s youth support service, said: “These exciting, fun sessions give the young people an opportunity to have a go at a variety of music sessions in a friendly and supportive environment, with all the pleasure and other positive benefits which that can bring.
“We also actively encourage their parents, brothers and sisters and carers to come and join in with them because that can add so much to the experience.”
The sessions take place every Monday during term time from 5.30pm to 7pm at the centre on Wiltshire Way. For more details call 01429-265810 or email sarah.mccluskey@hartlepool.gov.uk
