A MAN is in a critical condition after an apparent choking incident.

The Great North Air Ambulance Service was called to Hartlepool Marina on Monday.

The aircrew doctor and paramedic team assessed and treated the man before anesthetising him and transporting him to hospital.

The North East Ambulance Service was also called to help the man, aged between 61 and 70, at 12.20pm.

He was taken to the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough and is believed to be in a critical and life-threatening condition.
