THE trial of a man accused of murdering a grandmother who fostered more than 50 children is likely to be held in August.
Norma Bell's body was found in the burnt remains of her home in Westbourne Road, Hartlepool, on Sunday, April 3.
Police launched a murder investigation after it was discovered the 79-year-old was dead before the fire was started.
Gareth Dack appeared at Teesside Crown Court today via a live video-link from Holme House Prison in Stockton.
The unemployed 32-year-old faces charges of murder and arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered.
Judge Simon Bourne-Arton, QC, pencilled in another hearing for July 8 and a trial, and a potential trial for August 22.
Mrs Bell, who had lived in the house for 27 years, took care of more than 50 foster children as well as three of her own.
The widow - described by her devastated family as "a loving and caring person" - would have been 80 this month.
Mr Dack, of Windermere Road, Hartlepool, did not enter any pleas during this morning's hearing, which lasted 20 minutes.
He was remanded in custody, to appear in court, on the next occasion.
