PUPILS' artistic skills are helping to make roads around a primary school safer.

Children at Throston Primary School in Hartlepool have designed safety posters to be incorporated into new 20mph speed limit signs.

Pupils were invited to take part in the poster competition by Justin Goult from Hartlepool Council’s Road Safety Team and entries submitted by Amber Arnell, eight, Emily Lynn, eight, Zakk Green, six, and Tegan Smith, ten, were chosen as the winners.

Mr Goult said: “We want to ensure that drivers are aware of the new, reduced speed limit and came up with the idea of involving pupils in this way.

“All of the poster competition entries were of a really high-quality and choosing the winners was no easy task. I’d like to congratulate all of the pupils who entered on their efforts and, in particular, the four winners."
